Veils may be the more traditional way to make a headpiece statement on your wedding day (see: Meghan Markle's miles-long, message-sending choice for proof), but Danish bride Emma Leth makes a really, really convincing argument for a wedding day hat. Namely, one that's big enough to fit a family of four under.

The actress/model/It girl married artist Tal Rosenzweig in a stunning ceremony over the weekend, wearing a hat by French designer Jacquemus that can only be described as "enormous." It was so large, it obscured most of her face and a significant portion of the back of her body.

Her reason for choosing such a show-stopping - and, admittedly, out-of-the-box - piece? “Getting married is a deeply private thing that you do in front of a lot of people,” she told Vogue. “This is why I needed a hat that combined the feeling of hiding and sharing generosity at the same time.”

In comparison, the rest of her look was fairly understated. She paired the hat with a vintage lace slip dress that showed off an elegant white lingerie set, and earrings from Danish designer Irene Griegst, Vogue reports. She added yet another element of unexpected whimsy on her feet with navy blue polka dot shoes from Christian Louboutin.

Her bridesmaids had stunning headpieces of their own, wearing bright pink-and-purple flower crowns with their pale pink dresses. And the groom topped his navy pinstriped suit with a simple navy baseball cap.

While the hat is certainly a twist on traditional bridal style, it makes an important statement about choosing a wedding day look. When it comes to your own big event, there is no such thing as "over the top." Do you - even if that means hiding the view of the first kiss from the rest of the guests in the process.
